When machines were few, artisan work was the only solution. Woodwork and carpentry supplied all the furniture needed to turn a house into a home. The skilled carpenter, using simple tools, showed his skills by creating tables, chairs, cupboards, and so many other pieces of furniture – some simple and plain while others nicely decorated.
