CONFRATERNITIES – THE MANNEQUIN

Before you stands a member of one of Mosta’s confraternities.

Look at him for a moment.

He represents the many lay men and women who belonged to these brotherhoods — united by devotion to a saint or a shared spiritual practice.

They visited the sick, comforted the grieving, and stayed with the dying so no one faced death alone.

In a world without many of the forms of care we know today, these communities offered something deeply human: presence.

Someone to visit.

Someone to comfort.

Someone to stay.

Their legacy reminds us that a community is defined not only by what it builds, but by how it cares for one another.

Perhaps this, too, is part of Ars Moriendi — that to live well is also to learn how to be there for others.
