LADLE IN A SHOWCASE & VIATICUM

Beside you are two objects connected to the beginning and end of life.

One associated with birth, the other with death and the final moments of life.

Until now, we have followed one person’s experience.

Now the focus widens to the people of Mosta, for whom this church was at the heart of life’s greatest moments—from birth and celebration to farewell, through joy and sorrow.

The ladle was used at baptism, welcoming a new member into the Christian community.

Nearby is the Viaticum.

The word literally means “provision for the journey.”

It is given as part of the final Christian rites, offering comfort and hope to those approaching the end of life.

Between these two moments, the lives of generations of Mosta unfolded – generations who celebrated, mourned, and found community within these walls.
